Chin and Cheekbone Profiloplasty

The pleasantness and harmony of a face is considerably influenced by the shape and dimensions of the Chin and Cheekbones. A face with flat or, worse, sunken cheekbones has an emaciated look, and gives the appearance of a suffering person. A chin that is receding or too small gives the face an aspect that is neither harmonious, nor pleasant.

It is possible to correct a chin that is not developed with a Chin Augmentation intervention or correct flat cheekbones with a Cheek Augmentation one. To this purpose, the surgeon uses tailor-made implants: they are highly biocompatible – i.e. well tolerated by the tissues – their shape is anatomic and their dimensions are suitable and personalized to obtain the desired correction. Implants are made of Goretex, a highly biocompatible surgical material, often used both in Aesthetic Surgery, as well as in many other fields of Surgery (thorax, abdomen, etc.).

Goretex is a surgical material that has been thoroughly verified and tested; it has been used at an international level and has been included in numerous case studies. The implants used for cheekbones and chin plastic surgery exist in several dimensions in order to correct in the most effective and natural way the imperfections of the single person. With a Chin Augmentation intervention, the projection of a chin that is too short and receding is increased and the face acquires a more balanced and attractive aspect.

Harmony in the profile of a face is provided by a balanced ratio of the prominence of the three main elements of a face: forehead, nose and chin. With a short chin, a nose of normal dimensions or slightly above standard may seem prominent. In such cases, a chin augmentation surgery alone might be enough to reduce this imperfection and bring the profile back to a more harmonic and balanced ratio, without necessarily recurring to Rhinoplasty. In the case of underdeveloped cheekbones (malar hypoplasia), the increase of their prominence may confer a flat or excavated face more harmonious cheeks and also give it a more pleasant, youthful and smiley aspect.

Chin and cheekbones augmentation interventions can be performed alone, or together with another surgery on the face, such as a facial Lifting, Rhinoplasty, Blepharoplasty, etc.

Surgical Operation:
During a Chin Augmentation surgery, the method used is a small incision – just a few millimetres – either inside the mouth or on the cutis under the chin fold, in correspondence of the first skin wrinkle. The Goretex implant is placed under the membrane covering the bone (periosteum), directly in contact with the bone, it solders on in a permanent way.

Scars are scarcely visible, because they are well concealed within the natural skin folds. The post-surgery course is very short, with a very limited local oedema, which disappears in a few days. The procedure is the same for the Cheek Augmentation intervention, with an incision either along the ciliary edge of the lower eyelid or inside the mouth, in the mucosa fold located above the upper incisors.

If the cheekbones implants are placed during a Lifting or Blepharoplasty surgery, the incisions used for the other operations are used as way in. Both the Chin, as well as the Cheekbone Augmentation surgery results give a very pleasant and natural appearance to the face, without causing post-surgery pain. Complications, such as the dislodgement of the implant or an infection, occur very seldom and are treatable.

After the very first days, the implant sticks to the bone. Such operations can be performed according to the preferences of the patient, either in local anaesthesia, as an out-patient treatment, or in general anaesthesia with a few hours as an in-patient.
