Instead of protruding from the skin, the nipples of some women are flat or, even worse, sunken. To correct introflexed nipples, a small surgical operation can be carried out under local anaesthesia, during a day-hospital session, so as to return the nipples to their natural aspect.
Different types of surgical techniques are used to take care of the problem according to the degree of introflexion of the nipples: some contemplate the cutting of the galactophorus ducts while others maintain their integrity.
The correction of introflexed nipples is done with a small incision along the lower edge of the areola, in a not very visible area. The structure of the nipple is freed and can thus resume its natural protrusion. This operation is usually carried out in a day-hospital session under local or general anaesthesia according to the patient’s will.
During the post-operational period, a small local medication is applied and the patient can wear her brassiere right away. Stitches are removed after 7-10 days.
