What gynecomastia is and why it occurs<\/h2>\r\n <\/div>\r\n\r\n

In some men, breast volume can increase for various reasons. Gynecomastia is often due to overweight, hormonal changes, or the use of certain medications; other times it depends on the person\u2019s constitution<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n

In many cases, the underlying cause of gynecomastia is difficult to identify<\/strong>, because the issue is limited to an aesthetic concern. In most cases gynecomastia affects both breasts<\/strong>, but it can sometimes be unilateral, causing a very visible asymmetry that can lead to additional discomfort.<\/p>\r\n <\/div>\r\n<\/section>\r\n\r\n

How many types of gynecomastia exist<\/h2>\r\n

Gynecomastia is common in older men but can also occur in younger men<\/strong>. There are three types of gynecomastia: here they are in detail.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

How the surgical procedure works<\/h2>\r\n

Surgery for gynecomastia varies according to the underlying cause<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n

\r\n

For false gynecomastia, surgery involves removing excess fatty tissue by liposuction<\/strong>. This technique is very effective, delivers excellent results, and has a very quick post-operative course.<\/p>\r\n

For true gynecomastia, the glandular tissue is removed through a small periareolar skin incision<\/strong>, at the border between the darker areolar skin and the lighter surrounding skin, to achieve a discreet scar.<\/p>\r\n

The operation can be performed as day surgery under local anesthesia with sedation, or under general anesthesia with one day of hospitalization<\/strong>. The choice depends on the specific case, the extent of the defect to be corrected, and the patient\u2019s preferences.<\/p>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n<\/section>\r\n\r\n

What results can be achieved by treating gynecomastia<\/h2>\r\n

Results are immediate and highly satisfying for the patient. Scars are usually very small, while complications are rare and mostly related to the formation of hematomas or minor irregularities<\/strong> between the two sides<\/strong>; in any case, both issues can be corrected easily.<\/p>\r\n <\/div>\r\n<\/section>\r\n\r\n

Post-operative care<\/h2>\r\n

After surgery, an elastic compression garment must be worn<\/strong>, such as an elastic band or a specific compression vest.<\/p>\r\n

The garment, worn under normal clothing, must be kept on for 3 weeks<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n <\/div>\r\n<\/section>\r\n\r\n
