In 2016<\/strong>, according to the Italian Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (AICPE)<\/strong>, the issue affected 13,000 people<\/strong>. Once the decision is made, everyone asks the same question: how to remove a tattoo made when too young, too in love, or too impulsive \u2014 and what will the outcome be? Removing a tattoo is much harder than getting one, and full clearance isn\u2019t always possible.<\/p>\r\n

Tattoos are often chosen at a young age without considering their permanence. Many later regret them due to changing tastes or professional restrictions, such as in the army or police forces.<\/p>\r\n

Here are the key facts to know before removing your tattoo:<\/p>\r\n

    \r\n
  1. Complete removal isn\u2019t always possible<\/strong> \u2013 Laser effectiveness depends on colour, depth, density, pigment type, and skin phototype.<\/li>\r\n
  2. Expertise is crucial<\/strong> \u2013 The most effective method today is the Q-switched laser (Q-S)<\/strong>, which breaks pigment into tiny fragments cleared by the body. Multiple sessions spaced 45\u201360 days<\/strong> apart are usually required.<\/li>\r\n
  3. Timing matters<\/strong> \u2013 Removal takes months, with sessions every 6\u20138 weeks. Sun and tanning lamps must be avoided for at least a month, using SPF 30+\u201350+ sunscreens.<\/li>\r\n
  4. Number of sessions varies<\/strong> \u2013 Simple tattoos may need 3\u20135<\/strong> sessions; complex ones 8\u201312<\/strong>. Green, blue, and especially yellow are hardest to remove; red may darken.<\/li>\r\n
  5. Size affects duration<\/strong> \u2013 A tattoo measuring 4 cm per side takes about 10 minutes per session.<\/li>\r\n
  6. Cosmetic tattoos<\/strong> \u2013 Eyebrows, lips, areolae, and scar camouflage in pink\u2013brown\u2013orange tones can darken irreversibly with Q-S lasers; always test first.<\/li>\r\n
  7. Treatment can be stopped anytime<\/strong> \u2013 Patients may interrupt at any stage, but results will remain incomplete.<\/li>\r\n
  8. Q-S laser treatment is painful<\/strong> \u2013 Numbing cream and ice are typically used to reduce discomfort.<\/li>\r\n
  9. Darker skin makes removal harder<\/strong> \u2013 More challenging in darker phototypes; discouraged for patients prone to keloids or with active skin infections.<\/li>\r\n
