To restore volume in the malar region (cheeks), the surgeon may choose between <strong>filler injections<\/strong>, <strong>lipofilling<\/strong>, or <strong>prosthetic implants<\/strong>, depending on the case, with the goal of achieving a natural-looking result.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>The implants, made of various materials (silicone, Gore-Tex, Medpor), come in different sizes and shapes according to the defect to be corrected. The procedure is performed under <strong>local anesthesia with sedation<\/strong> or under <strong>general anesthesia<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Cheek implants<\/strong> are inserted either through an incision inside the mouth or along the lower eyelid margin, similar to a <a href=\"\/chirurgia-estetica-del-viso\/blefaroplastica-plastica-palpebre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">blepharoplasty<\/a>. In the case of the chin, the implant is usually inserted through an incision inside the mouth. The implants may be fixed with sutures.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>The surgery is typically performed as <strong>day surgery<\/strong>, allowing the patient to return home the same day. Normal daily activities can usually be resumed after about a week, while <strong>sports activities<\/strong> should be avoided for around 20 days.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Scars<\/strong> are not visible, and any <strong>swelling<\/strong> usually disappears within a few days. The final appearance is achieved after approximately six months. The results are <strong>stable<\/strong> and <strong>natural-looking<\/strong>, with implants neither visible nor palpable. As long as the patient has realistic expectations and requests consistent with their natural features, there are no contraindications to the procedure.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h2>Types of facial implants<\/h2>\r\n\r\n<ul>\r\n  <li>\r\n    <strong>Chin implants:<\/strong> these implants can increase the size and projection of a chin that is not proportionate to the forehead or midface. A small or recessed chin can make the neck appear fuller instead of defined.\r\n  <\/li>\r\n\r\n  <li>\r\n    <strong>Jaw implants:<\/strong> these increase the width of the lower third of the face. Similar to the chin, a weak jawline can appear less defined and blend into the neck.
